ISBTI is a Non Profit Voluntary Organization operating at National Level. Registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 by the Registrar of the Societies, Chandigarh on December 28, 1973, it functions as a National body for blood transfusion chapter for scientific advancement and research including up gradation & maintenance of safe blood transfusion services in the country. Keeping in view the Aims of National Blood Policy of Govt. of India, ISBTI carries out activities as stipulated in the National Guidelines for voluntary blood donation published by National Aids Control Organization (NACO).
ISBTI is one of the very few NGOs empanelled with ‘TISS National CSR Hub’ to carry out projects of CPSEs under their CSR policies throughout the Country.

ISBTI is operating at National level through its Zonal Councils, State Chapters and vast network of Voluntary Blood Donors, Donor Motivators & Blood Donation Camp Organizers throughout the Country.
At present, there are 5594 members of ISBTI including Blood Transfusion Specialists, Clinicians, Nurses, Paramedical Staff, Blood Bank Staff, Voluntary Blood Donors, Donor Motivators & Blood Donation Camp Organizers from all over the Country.

ISBTI is currently being headed by Dr. Yudhbir Singh Khyalia I.A.S. posted as Director General, Consolidation of Holdings & Land Records in Haryana. Dr. Singh is known as a pioneer in Blood Donation Motivation for having initiated Blood Donation Awareness program in rural areas. He himself has organized more than 2500 Blood Donation Camps and has been instrumental in motivating more than one lakh fifty thousand volunteers to donate blood.
His name has been listed in Limca Book of Records 1998 page 157 for having organized “Rakt Daan Jaagran Mela” for a record “Highest Blood Collection in a single camp”.
He has been conferred degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Social Work on the topic “Management of Safe Blood Transfusion” by Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra.
His name has also been recorded in 20th edition of “Limca Book of Records” page 206 which bagged him “People of the Year” award for his extra ordinary skills in the field of Social Services.
His vision about this cause is evident from one of his presentations, wherein he says;
“We made beginning from a village, moved from village to village, town to town & successfully achieved 100% Voluntary Blood Donation in the District. We wish it should cover the State….then Country…. and finally the whole of the World…. to make this World a better living place for all living beings”.
